Only 4 per cent of people believe they could live comfortably on a state pension, a survey says.
Research for Friends Provident also reveals that almost 70 per cent of people - including pensioners and those still in work- think they need £600 or more a month to fund an easy retirement.
Seven in 10 pensioners have adequate funds but those still in employment are heading towards a bleaker retirement, with just under a third expecting to struggle financially.
Jeremy Ward, from Friends Provident, said; "Most people need more than £600 a month to live comfortably.Considering that a quarter haven't started planning or don't intend to plan for their retirement, this is something they can only dfream about".
