When I was a kid, I used to read a lot and learnt that using the local library was a great & cheap way to fulfil my need for knowledge.
Something happened when I was at secondary school, as my voracious appetite for books waned, perhaps as a result of being forced to read aloud in English lessons or because I couldn't get into the kind of books they suggested.
When I started work , I wasd taking porofessional exams, so my reading matter was dry and educational, which did little to re-ignite my passion for reading.
However, over the past 5 years, I've regained my passion and have turned into one of those strange people who'll turn the TV off to read a book, either real or an ebook ! I knew my passion had returned, when one year I got through over 30 books.
The problem I have is that my reading tastes are quite diverse from Joe Jaworski's "Synchronicity" to Ian Rankin's "Rebus" novels, which means that the local library isn't as good as when I was 7 years old.
So my ideal library would have
- a wide range of books
- the ability to browse on line
- deliver to my door
- a simple way to return the books
- no late fees (for the books that I can't get into)
Now I know this may seem like a tall order, but I've found that I can use Amazon like a library. I can look for the books at any time, I can bundle my orders to get free delivery, they arrive at my door and I can sell them back if I decide not to keep them.
Obviously it costs me, but when you compare the cost to the ease factor, it makes a lot of sense to me.
